Consumer Beware
If your intent is to purchase “Made in USA” products, you may wish to consider these issues. If you have any other things we consumers should be concerned with, please blog!
- The definition of “Made in USA” can vary by the following categories; All raw materials from USA, All parts manufactured in USA, Assembled in USA, Packaged and/or Distributed in USA, Owned by Americans.
Thought provoking examples: Honda Accord, assembled in USA, owned by foreign company. Lititz Watches, made in USA of Swiss parts. Lititz, an American owned company, refurbishes originally foriegn manufactured watches.
- Companies often have some portions of the brand made in USA and other portions imported. Check the labels even on the brands you are familiar with.
- Careful when shopping on-line stores. Unless you are purchasing an item specifically listed on the MadebyYankees.net database or unless the product description specifically states “Made in USA”, you will have to do your own verification. The exception to this is the On-line stores listed on this website as selling “Made in USA” exclusively. Nope, no kickbacks for stating this or putting their names on this blog.
- I’m human too, though I’ve attempted to thoroughly research every brand and product, it is entirely possible that there is an error in my data. Please don’t hold me responsible for being human, I can’t help it. But, I don’t mind being told I’ve made a mistake, so be sure to let me know!
-Let’s not forget my research is only as accurate as the manufacturing websites that I researched. I don’t like inaccurate information either. If you find discrepant information, please let me know!
